PNHS men’s and women’s cross country coach receives IHSA Coach of the Year Award

Plainfield North High School men’s and women’s cross country head coach Andrew Derks was named the Illinois High School Association Coach of the Year for the 2023-24 season.

“It makes me feel proud to be recognized, but I truly see this as an award for our entire coaching staff,” Derks said.

“Coach Derks deserves this honor based on not only the success of the program, but also the dedication and commitment he has towards the student athletes,” PNHS Athletic Director Ron Lear said.

Each fall, the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS), which is the national affiliate of the IHSA, conducts a coach of the year program for all NFHS-sanctioned sports.
