Dear Aux Sable Middle School Parent/Guardian,
We have had a very positive start to the school year, and I want to sincerely thank you for all your support.
Our School Improvement and Building Leadership Team started meeting towards the end of last school year and during the summer to review school-wide data and create new improvement goals.
The two main building goals for the 2026-2027 school year is STUDENT-CENTEREDNESS (The school cultivates an educational environment that addresses the district academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of all students and coveys high expectations, support, and mutual respect among all staff and students) and STRATEGIC MANANAGEMENT (The school employs a process of setting goals aligned to the school’s mission and vision, developing plans for
meeting those goals, mobilizing the resources needed for implementation and evaluating the results of those actions in order to determine next steps as part of a model of continuous improvement).
Although our new goals span the Cultural, Systems, and Learning Domains, STUDENT SAFETY must always remain our priority. I am requesting more police presence this year – I think it is important for our students and staff to make positive relationships with the Police Officers assigned to our neighborhood areas. We are focusing on hallway transitions to make sure students safely transition from class period to class period and have already started the new procedure of teachers picking their classes up from lunch (this alone has brought a sense of calm to our building). Teachers are working with
students to create classroom contracts and are practicing routines and expectations.
The stark reality behind making any school a safe place is that it takes OWNERSHIP –ownership from teachers, staff, administration, students, and parents/guardians. We are all responsible for making Aux Sable a safe and welcoming place. We all need to be vigilant in reporting concerns immediately – and in today’s society those concerns often arise through social-media. If you see or hear something concerning about the well being of our students, staff, or school – report it!
It is true, the world around us has many heavy worries, but we want our Aux Sable Middle School kids to see the beauty in our world too, to be a school where kids can have fun, laugh, and see the kindness and good in people.
Let us all work together to make Aux Sable Middle School a special place!
Sincerely,
Dr. Rivara
