Dear Aux Sable Parent/Guardian:
Welcome to the new school year. Our Aux Sable Administrative Team, Teachers, and Staff are excited about the opportunity to work with all our students and their parents/guardians.
Middle School is an exciting time of growth for our students physically, mentally and emotionally. It’s a time when students seek more independence but often need thoughtful support navigating the complex world around them.
During the transitional period from summer vacation to daily school, I would highly suggest the following:
Closely monitor your child’s cellphone usage. Experts suggest no more than 2 hours of cell phone usage daily, compared to the 7 – 9 hours research shows students spend during the summer. It may not be a popular decision, but taking your child’s cell phone prior to bed time ensures a good night’s sleep and avoids the temptation to go on social media.
Caution your child about social media and large student-lead chats. These will often start off innocently, but often turn negative and/or inappropriate.
Teach your child to self-advocate. Communicating to their teachers is so important – all teachers welcome students to come see them to discuss challenges (many students are more comfortable emailing teachers and that is perfectly acceptable).
School Safety: If you or your child sees or hears something that is concerning, contact the school immediately. We have been able to proactively support students and families with some serious issues because caring students and/or parents notified us immediately.
Aux Sable Middle School cares deeply for our students and understands that no one in this world knows them better than you. Forming a school/home partnership is key for a successful middle school experience.
Let’s have a great school year!
